The international concert series Musica Eterna Dubrovnik presents some of the most prominent artists and up-and-coming musicians from Croatia and the world.

GOTO MIDORI, violin / CHARLES ABRAMOVIC, piano

Midori is one of the most famous violinists of today. Since her historic debut at the age of 11 with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1982, Midori has developed into a world famous master musician, an innovator, and a champion of the developmental potential of children. Over the last 25 years, she has performed worldwide in recital or with leading orchestras and conductors. She also leads several music projects involving young people and underprivileged communities. She was recently designated an official Messenger of Peace of the United Nations.

 

As soloist, chamber music player and piano accompanist, American pianist Charles Abramovic appears regularly in Europe, the United States and Canada. He collaborates with violinists Sarah Chang, Midori, and Viktoria Mullova, violist Kim Kashkashian, and flutist Jeffrey Khaner. A renowned interpreter of contemporary music, Charles Abramovich is also engaged as piano professor at Temple University's Boyer College of Music.

CAPPELLA RAGUSINA –KLAPA LINĐO N

Cappella Ragusina – Klapa Linđo-N is one of the oldest early music ensembles in Europe. Many renowned musicians from Dubrovnik were its members. Ensemble focuses on the Croatian music heritage and original Croatian glagolitic chants from the medieval times that have been preserved through aural music tradition and in ancient church scripts.

IVANA BILIĆ, marimba /MATANGI STRING QUARTET

Passionate, versatile, challenging – this is how critics describe Matangi Quartet. Since its foundation in 1999, Matangi’s passion for string quartet music hasn't gone unnoticed. Although they have great respect for the heritage of classical music, they believe that classical music doesn’t stop at the door of the 21st century. This conviction led them to develop a versatile and fascinating repertoire, for which they have won prestigious awards.

 

Croatian percussionist Ivana Bilić is a well-established world-class artist. A member of the Croatian Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra, she also regularly appears in concert with leading European ensembles, and performs at international festivals. Ivana arranges and co-edits new works for percussion and records regularly for the radio and television. Her original pieces for marimba and marimba duo have been published by Malletworks (USA). She is an active lecturer in marimba and percussion masterclasses worldwide.

ĐANA KAHRIMAN, violin / RENATA HIL, piano

Originally from Dubrovnik, Đana Kahriman studies at the Music Academy in Zagreb. Since her debut, age 8, with Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, she has won numerous international competitions in Croatia and abroad, and performed recitals and as a soloist with orchestras in Italy, Slovenia, Lithuania, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Poland and Liechtenstein. Critics have praised her for her deep understanding of music and virtuosic style.

 

Renata Hil won numerous piano competitions as a pupil and student. She studied piano and chamber music at Music Academy in Novi Sad with Kemal Gekić and at Mozarteum in Salzburg with Karl-Heinz Kaemmerling and Erika Frieser. Renata Hil is engaged as a senior piano accompanist at Music Academy of Zagreb. She regularly collaborates with numerous young musicians as well as established artists such as mezzo-soprano Renata Pokupić and violinist Anđelko Krpan.

BRIDGE STRING QUARTET

The Bridge Quartet is one of Britain's leading string quartets. Their acclaimed recordings, particularly of works by their namesake, British composer Frank Bridge (1879-1941), have led them to tour internationally.

 

They often perform in London, including at the prestigious South Bank Centre and Wigmore Hall, and in festivals and series around the UK. Members of the Bridge Quartet are highly respected as coaches on international courses; their pioneering educational work has won several awards and was featured on BBC Television.

Dutch performer Fie Schouten fascinates with her bassclarinet in various formations. Fie has performed throughout Europe with other groups as well, including larger ensembles and orchestras, and won a number of prizes and awards for her performances and recordings. She is the owner of a bassclarinet, clarinets, as well as a bassethorn, contrabassclarinet, e-flatclarinet. Austrian accordionist Marko Kassl studied accordion at the Hochschule Dortmund and the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen, Germany. His repertoire is of a wide range: Scarlatti, Piazzola, contemporary classical music. He is very active in chamber music and was to be heard as a soloist with orchestra (Bochumer Sinfoniker, Alte Philharmonie Muenster). Koen Kaptijn studied trombone at the Conservatoires of Rotterdam and Lyon. He is highly involved in contemporary music. He is principal trombonist in Orchestra de Volharding and trombonist in Ensemble-MAE in Amsterdam. He also works as a freelance trombonist with other ensembles such as Schönberg Ensemble, Asko Ensemble and the Nieuw Ensemble. In 2006 he was involved as a soloist in the highly acclaimed music theatre group Orkater.
